These pictures were taken when a monsoon thunderstorm drifted southwestward into north Phoenix about 10PM one August night in 1983. My wife and I packed up our camera and got into position near Greenway and 53rd Avenue in a residential neighborhood bordering a large open space. (It has not been vacant for a very long time, now.)
We are looking south. Winds were light, and the flash rate was very low--these pictures were taken over a 20-30 minute period. Although no precipitation fell at our location, the lightning does illuminate light rain falling between us and the flash. The last picture in the sequence marked the end of the session, as the storm dissipated before we could reposition ourselves.
